How Do Manufacturers Calculate Product Profitability?
Manufacturers calculate product profitability by assigning each product its direct material cost, direct labor and a fair share of overhead, then comparing that full cost to the selling price. The result, expressed as margin per unit, shows which products actually earn their keep and which ones consume capacity without returning a profit.
Read the article 02 · Manufacturing M&AHow Do You Value a Manufacturing Business?
A manufacturing business is valued using three standard approaches: the market approach, which compares the company to recent sales of similar businesses; the income approach, which discounts expected future earnings; and the asset approach, which values equipment, inventory, real estate and intangibles. Most credible manufacturing valuations combine more than one approach and reconcile the results into a defensible range.

Financial due diligence on a manufacturing acquisition verifies that the earnings being purchased are real, repeatable and transferable. Buyers review normalized financial statements, customer and supplier concentration, inventory and equipment condition, tax exposure and the structure of the deal itself, because each of these can change the value of the company after closing.

Questions owners ask
Straight Answers, No Fine Print
If your question is not here, bring it to a consultation. The first conversation is about your situation, not a sales pitch.
Ask a Pagac AdvisorWhat makes Pagac & Company different from a typical CPA firm?
Pagac goes beyond tax compliance. The firm helps business owners understand what their financial information means and how it can inform decisions about taxes, profitability, cash flow, expansion, acquisitions and succession, with senior advisory rather than preparation only.
Do you serve businesses outside Michigan?
Yes. Pagac & Company is based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and serves qualifying manufacturing companies and dental practice owners nationally, in person and remotely, from that single office. The firm does not maintain offices in other cities.
What is the Financial Intelligence Assessment?
The assessment, available at pagac.com/assessment, helps dental practice owners evaluate their practice across entity structure, tax strategy, profitability, real estate and retirement architecture, so they can see which financial decisions deserve attention first. It does not promise specific results.
Who does Pagac primarily work with?
Pagac serves established business owners: manufacturing companies, dental practice owners and other privately held businesses that have grown past the point where basic bookkeeping and preparation are enough. The firm does not focus on retail or individual tax preparation.
How do we get started?
Start with a consultation. Share your business situation and the questions behind it, and Pagac will map the right scope, from a focused tax review to a full accounting, reporting and advisory relationship, before any work begins.
